800 niche columbarium


City of Oxford adds Columbarium to Cemetery 

The decision has been made that Oxford will extend its cemetery. The extension will cost the town a great deal of money to insert the 800 niche columbarium. The main idea is to maintain the cemetery and keep what is sacred about it but also adding on. The board has granted Robinson to advertise on the approval of the Oxford Historic Perservation.

There is concern that the process of working near the graves would be a problem. Rest aside there will no disturbing of the graves. The funds of selling the niches will help maintain the cemetery which was given by St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The extension was greatly appreciated since some of the older parts of the cemetry is St. Peter's Cemetery.

Many have cremated and buried their ashes in the graves according to Alderman Janice Antonow. Mayor Pat Patterson said that more local churches are investing in private columbariums and spaces have been selling out. The funds to come from the city's bond which is worth about 5.5 million in 2012.
